Scoring Criteria

Our accessibility scores are designed to give you a quick, reliable overview of how easy it is to navigate the community and enjoy local businesses. With straightforward ratings, we help you make informed choices for a seamless experience. We have broken it down into 5 basic categories to assess the physical accessibility of the spaces. Each section is given a score, then all of the scores are totaled to determine each location’s rating.

Criteria 1 Parking

Accessible parking is essential for ensuring easy access to a location.

Score 1: Multiple designated handicap spots (2+), allowing for adequate parking options.
Score 0.5: One designated handicap spot, offering limited accessibility.
Score 0: No designated handicap parking within 100 feet of the entrance, making access difficult.

Criteria 2 Distance to Parking

The distance from parking to the entrance plays a key role in accessibility.

Score 1: Parking is within 50 feet of the establishment, making access quick and convenient.
Score 0.5: Parking is within 100 feet, still accessible but less convenient.
Score 0: Parking is more than 100 feet away, creating significant barriers for those with mobility challenges.

Criteria 3 Terrain / Entrance

The condition of the terrain and the entrance impacts ease of access.

Score 1: Flat, level ground from parking to the entrance, with a ramp available for easy navigation. Wide doorways (32" minimum) ensure smooth entry.
Score 0.5: Slight incline or minor obstacles, such as narrow doorways or makeshift ramps, but still passable.
Score 0: Steep inclines, multiple steps, narrow entrances, or significant obstacles that hinder access.

Criteria 4 Seating Options

The availability of accessible seating ensures comfort and convenience.

Score 1: Multiple accessible tables with enough space for wheelchair users, plus flexible seating options for various needs.
Score 0.5: At least one accessible table, but with limited space or fewer seating options.
Score 0: No accessible seating options or inadequate space for wheelchair users, making dining uncomfortable.

Criteria 5 Bathroom Accessibility

Accessible bathrooms are essential for independence and comfort during visits.

Score 1: Fully accessible bathrooms with adequate turning space, grab bars, and easily reachable soap and dryer.
Score 0.5: Partially accessible bathrooms with some features but minor limitations, such as cramped space or lack of turning room.
Score 0: No accessible bathroom or significant barriers that prevent use by wheelchair users.
